Time graph for Christi Taylor's Fit to Dance
An amazingly varied workout — each five-minute interval features a different song and a different exercise style. The diversity challenges your body while keeping you motivated (there’s always something new coming up). Some segments feature familiar favorites like traditional toning, classic core or step/floor cardio. Others are truly unique, like “Latin hip swings,” to “cross-over with running basics,” “squat cha chas on the step” and “V-sit jacks.” The music is also super-varied — from fitness instrumentals to salsa, jazz and Reggae (e.g. “Canta, No Llores,” “I’ll Get Over You” and even the Nutcracker’s “Sugar Plum Fairy”). Very high-energy cuing; Christi is having fun! Requires 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2008. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option.

Christi Taylor's Fit to Dance

pleasantly surprised
I am a stepper who loves the complex Christi moves and wasn't sure if I'd like this one or send it back. Oddly enough, I found it fun and a good workout. The music is varied and changes every 5 minutes or so. Agreed, the weighted sections are not tough and questionably effective, however it does help get in some of that "weight bearing" excercise that is important for bones. I did find myself modifying some of the lunges and such as it is a bit "bouncy" throughout on the knees (gals -- a supportive bra is helpful!). I think I'll keep it. - posted by Kathleen on 11/14/2008
Good, always fun
This is a good, tried-and-true workout. I always burn a lot of calories when I do it and feel pleasantly challenged, but not too sore. The routines are pretty simple, but they're short enough not to get too boring. - posted by Rebo on 10/6/2008
This is a very unique workout
I did this workout and found that 46 year olds can hip hop and do other dancy moves! I was challenged at first but I did enjoy this workout. - posted by Sharae on 9/24/2008
Wow, totally great...
I LOVED this workout. Christi has, in the past, been too choreographically challenging for me. This one is constantly changing but do-able. The moves are basic and she builds complexity with perfect timing and cuing. It is also a fun dvd that put me in a good mood. I actually didn't want it to end! She is kind and upbeat, and the moves pushed me to my max. I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and this was just so much fun. I can't wait for the next one! - posted by Lisa on 8/18/2008
Excellent and Motivating
I don't know what's up with the negative reviews, but this is a great workout. Christi is a music lover, so she always makes sure her workouts have good, motivating songs. Something that other instructors need more of. Compared to some of her older workouts this one is much easier to follow. It gets your heart rate up just right, sometimes, I do add some additional jumps and I use heavier weights. Excellent workout that I reach for when I want a good mix and fun. - posted by dusty on 6/30/2008
Breaking my boredom
I have many videos in my collection, but was beginning to get a little bored--this is the perfect workout to break the boredom. I loved the quick changing intervals--each segment is about 5 minutes long, and with about 13-14 different segments, I can imagine this workout will keep me engaged and motivated for a long time. Although I love the complex choreography of Christi's other workouts, these moves are very easy to pick up on. I do agree with the other reviewers that my muscles didn't feel taxed after the weight segments, but nonetheless my heart rate stayed up and I was a sweating machine. A keeper! - posted by Amy on 6/28/2008
Great music, fun workout
The time flew by when I did this! I loved it so much. It has a dancy feel without complex choreography and is impeccably cued by Christi. I use it as cardio workout rather than an interval by using only 2 or 3 pound weights. This is a keeper and I hope Christi makes more like it. - posted by fit2Btied on 5/17/2008
Sent it back
This was my third Christi video. The other two are all cardio and I LOVE them! Christi's cueing is always impeccable. With that said, I had to send this one back. I hurt my shoulder. I used 5 lb. weights, which is light for me, and I believe that was a mistake. It doesn't work your muscles to fatigue, and I didn't like some of the "toning" moves, such as the push-ups she does. I would still purchase other Christi videos, because she is an excellent instructor. This one was just not for me. - posted by Kathy on 5/3/2008
If you want something different...
I don't usually like "dance" workouts but the clip on Collage looked really interesting. This is a workout like no other. The music is fantastic; completely different from any other workout. While I agree the workout doesn't "work" your muscles to exhaustion, I wasn't really expecting it to. I've never found "compound exercises" where you work upper and lower body together to exhaust muscles. I do this workout and then concentrate on a body part after. - posted by Julie on 4/24/2008
Good Workout
I like the workout you get from this video but for me some of it was hard to follow. Instead of working out i'd find myself trying to figure out what she's doing. However, I did feel like I was getting a good cardio workout and elevated heartrate. - posted by Natalia on 4/15/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
