Time graph for Core Cross Train Kickbox
Expertly led by Patricia Moreno, each move has a subtle intensity and quiet effectiveness. You’ll burn mega-calories as you increase balance, strength and grace. Every motion really does originate from your center (e.g. a punch isn’t just a flailing arm; it’s a core-based movement that’s both powerful and purposeful). The workouts become progressively more challenging. The first one is basic punches; the last one is “choreographed” kickboxing combos (all taught add-on style, so the sequencing is natural and easy to follow). It’s filmed outdoors in the high desert of Arizona. DVD also has a bonus 14-minute toning/stretch workout. ©2007. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Core Cross Train Kickbox

Some pros, lots of cons
When I sat to write this review, I had a hard time figuring out how to rate the DVD. On the one hand, I enjoyed some of the segments and did break a great sweat, but overall there were too many problems with this. First, the technical issues...You can't fast forward through the instructor's intro before the punching segment! Try it, and the DVD will stop (in my player, anyway) and you have to start over. She babbles on and on, and listening to that EVERY SINGLE TIME is infuriating. I don't like the no "play all" option, as I have to stop between segments to choose the next one. You can't maintain your heartrate that way. Of course, this was so slow-paced that my heart only jumped when I was doing the combinations in the final segment. The moves are good, but she over-explains them and never stops talking. Not once! - posted by Jamie on 11/19/2008
I am liking it so far
Today I did two of the workouts sections punches and kicks, and so far so good. I did feel like there was a little of uneven reps especially in the kicking workout. It did make me sweat more than other videos but the sweat factor is nonimportant to me so I really don't care if a workout makes me sweat or not but how it makes me feel during the workout and afterwards. This workout felt great, it left me feeling accomplished exercise wise. I can't wait to tackle the rest of the workout sections and based on my experience with the two workouts I did today, I know they are going to be just as good and invigorating. - posted by nina on 11/10/2008
Just adding...
The "Bonus Power Workout", clocking in at around 14 minutes, is a great segment for strengthening your entire core. Patricia, as always, is calm and motivating and the music in this section is wonderful. - posted by RedPanda on 10/23/2008
Burns lots of calories with controlled intensity
This workout is not very fast paced, like most kickboxing workouts, but it is still very intense. The movements are slow and controlled, yet still get your heart rate up. I wore my heart rate monitor while doing the entire video and burned over 700 calories! The "bonus" core workout is extremely challenging, though a little hard on the wrists. The slower, more focused moves in this workout, paired with the instructor's serene motivation and the breath-taking scenery, make this workout ideal for when I need to workout, but just am not in the mood... - posted by Rach on 10/21/2008
Fantastic for perfecting your form
I nearly didn't buy this DVD because the early reviews said it was lacking in intensity. But then I did some more research and came to think of it as "batting practice", as another reviewer described it. If you are learning kickboxing from DVDs, you'll find that Patricia will help you to perfect your form and get so much more from your other workouts. Patricia is very motivating; I feel I'm getting "insider's tips" from a pro. As an added bonus, the music and location are fantastic. A must-have for kickboxing fans! - posted by RedPanda on 8/22/2008
I love this DVD.
I hate to work my abs from the floor. I love this DVD. Standing ab work at it's finest. I was wanting to get into kickboxing DVDs and didn't want to dive right into Amy Bento or Cathe until my body got used to the movement of kickboxing. I read all the reviews and chose this DVD because of it's intermediate rating combined with the comments regarding form and instruction. I actually like the slow start and will utilize that aspect on days that I need a workout but don't necessarily want one. I know Patricia takes a little bit to set up for the next phase, but I use that time to get some water or do an extra rep or 2. This is a good cardio rush for people who don't have much space. The more umph you give it the more your body will benefit. I also used single pound wrist weights for the duration of the work out. I think it helps with the sweat factor. - posted by Jessica on 8/4/2008
Amazing
This workout is intense and zero impact. Plus, it strengthens important functional muscles. It reminds me of how you can do tons of plies and never sweat, but when you really do them right, you sweat buckets. Enjoy! - posted by Jen on 8/3/2008
Like it...but...
I did like this workout but the exercisers all wore brown which kind of blended in with the scenery and made it look pretty drab. They should have worn white or something light so you could appreciate the background scenery. That being said...the workout itself was good and I got a lot out of it, her cuing was great and she's a wonderful instructor...I'm glad I bought this! - posted by Sue on 8/2/2008
My Favorite Workout
I love this DVD. Since I purchased it about two months ago, I work out with Patricia twice a week and rotate my other ninety or so dvds/tapes. The standing core work is excellent and at forty-nine, my abs look great (thanks to Patricia). It's high intensity without high impact. She's motivating and the workout is tough. I get such a rush and satisfaction afterwards. This is my fav. I was so pleased with her instruction and motivation (and my abs), today I purchased Dance: Core Cross Train. I hope Collage Video will offer more PM videos for on-line purcahse. - posted by Casey on 7/19/2008
so bad i had to turn it off
This has to be, by far, the absolute worst dvd I have ever done. I barely broke a sweat and I didn't think it was kickboxing oriented. There was no continuity, and I had to turn it off. Not good. - posted by maria on 7/18/2008

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
