Time graph for Dance Off the Inches Fat Burning Jam

By Michelle Dozois, it’s an easy-to-follow workout that focuses on “fun,” not “exercise.” Like joining an informal party, you’ll find yourself just shakin’ your hips as you’re movin’ to the music. Michelle’s friendly interactive rapport makes both fluid and natural (she explicitly encourages each dancer’s personal style; you can follow along or incorporate your own approach). The dances — never complex or over-choreographed — range from basic grapevines and chassés to interesting Latin and jazz (with lots of large-limb and low-to-the-ground moves to maintain the intensity). It ends with an 11-minute step-by-step instructional segment. ©2006. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Dance Off the Inches Fat Burning Jam

Don't Know About Fat Burning, But It Sure is Fun!
I don't agree with negative reviews-I really like this one. I'm 47 and a former dancer, and I enjoyed the choreography-what a great change of pace from walking, marching, sidestepping etc. I had fun! Michelle is great, and all the Dance Off the Inches videos I have tried I have loved. The only negative I can think of is one spin move that is impossible to do in athletic shoes on a carpet, but it was easy to modify. I like interesting low impact videos, and if that is what you are looking for, I recommend this one. Sizzling Salsa is my favorite though, but I believe you'll like this one too. The Dance off the Inches videos are well thought out by giving you broken down instruction if you want it, and the choreography is always interesting and doable which is important. I don't get bored doing these, and they go by fast because it's so much fun. - posted by Stacey on 7/22/2008
Fun workout
This is a fun workout for days when you're not really into doing a serious workout or are short on time but still want to do something. The steps are easy to learn but not so easy that it is boring. Michelle's voice is a little high pitched and she never stops talking but it doesn't bother me too much. - posted by Stacy on 5/14/2008
One of my go-to DVDs
I'm an intermediate exerciser with a lot of dance experience and I love this one. I enjoy Michelle and find her to be a really fun instructor. 35 minutes is the perfect length for me, and the routines are fun and engaging. I find myself reaching for this one again and again. - posted by DWT on 1/22/2008
A true body shake up!
When I start this dvd, I'm already shaked up. Wow! She and the others kept moving the body. I haven't exercise for a while. I can feel bit stiff on my body and a sweat at the end. I do see that there's a plenty rooms left for me to adjust on my body for best moves. I don't feel bored like some other dancing dvds. I like this one better than Shape Cardio dvd which Michelle was on. It gave too complex moves and too fast. This dvd is perfect in speed and fun moves with mambo, cha cha, chase, jazz, and else. I believe that it is for intermediate level with some dancing expereince. I always like Michelle and Marie. - posted by Robin H. on 1/1/2008
Eh, It was OK
I didn't want anything overly intense and this wasn't. I thought the music could have been a little more motivating. It was a little bland. It's not the best workout on carpet, but I guess most dance workouts aren't. It wasn't the worst workout in the world by any means. I loved how she kept my lower body moving the whole time, it just wasn't really fun how I like dance workouts to be. It is hard to find a workout that blends fun and intensity as I like it. The only one I have found so far is Christi Taylor. I'm sure I will do it again someday. - posted by Slim on 12/7/2007
For absolute beginners
Every workout video is effective if you put maximum effort into it. The difference between videos is the presentation. I feel like the three "Dance Off the Inches" videos I have attempted--"Fat Burning Jam," "Tummy Tone," and "Sizzlin' Salsa--is contrived and insulting to viewers' intelligence. As compared to Tamilee Webb or Jennifer Galardi, the instructors are not genuine. Further, I feel these videos present a watered-down version of dance that resembles the aerobics classes that I took for seven years, which burnt me out. I admit that I like Michelle's three jazz squares into a full turn, but the four hops to the side that follow are too simple for my taste. I think that absolute beginners with no aerobics or dance experience would benefit most from the "Dance off the Inches" series. - posted by Elena on 9/16/2007
Not really intermediate - more like beginner
I have workout videos of Michelle Dozois going back to her National Aerobic Champion days and I love all of them, but this one was quite disappointing. I hardly broke a sweat until very close to the end and it was more of a "bead" of sweat! I gave it away after one use. If I am going to do this short of a workout, I want it to make me feel like I got my heart pumping! I would suggest ANY of her other videos! - posted by susan patenaude-vigil on 6/27/2007
OH SO LAME OTHERWISE CALL IT RIDICULOUS
I have tons of workouts I do at home and I have others with Michelle and really like them but not this one. What a joke! I knew a dance oriented workout would not be as challenging as some other workouts but this one was beyond disappointing. Boring. The repetitive nature of the moves start to get on your nerves right away. The other thing is that they are boring dance moves. I am an average dancer. I can generally follow instructions and while I may not look as great as an instructor I can get it done. On this video you just snooze through it. Not enough cardio for my great grandma let alone me and I am 49 and repetitive. I certainly didn't expect this from Michelle and have since donated mine to charity. - posted by Amy on 5/22/2007
I LIKED IT!!
Being a "Firm" fan, this was my first dance video to try. I LIKED IT! Michelle is contagiously enthusiastic, and her cues are easy to follow. The dance steps were also easy to learn for an intermediate exerciser. It makes a nice change-of-pace in my rotation of toning, weight-lifting, and aerobic videos. I didn't feel like I got as much of a work-out as I usually do with "The Firm", but I need those "lighter" work-out days, too. - posted by Trudi on 5/15/2007

FUN INTERMEDIATE DANCE WORKOUT!!!!
This is a solid intermediate dance workout. Very easy to follow and Michelle cues very well. Also a nice, safe low impact with intensity workout. The workout has such a fun factor no dread. The time flys by. Michelle gets right to business and there is no wasted time. You pop the DVD in and just start dancing. The workout has an interval intensity feel due to the changing of dances. So your heartrate will get up there and then a very brief march leads you into the next dance and so on. No dreaded "Tempo Changes". The workout flows smoothly through all the different dance moves. This workout is a very nice change of pace and choreography from Leslie's or Debbie's walking workouts. Great workout to have in your collection low impact with intensity. - posted by NA/AWA on 4/7/2007

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
