Time graph for Firm: Bootcamp Maximum Calorie Burn
Lots of tempo variations and a huge variety of movements (from kickbox and plyometrics to legendary Firm favorites like “four limb” and aerobics-blended-with-dumbbell-toning). Even the “feel” is classic Firm — the quick-changing moves are well-planned and the cuing is super-precise (Alison Davis makes sure you’re constantly focused on proper technique). The cardio features both dance-aerobic and athletic-style movements. The toning includes traditional weight training, functional fitness and multi-muscle exercises. Also, many segments intermix the cardio and toning for maximum time-efficiency. Requires two sets of dumbbells (e.g. 2 lb. and 5 lb.). ©2007.

Firm: Bootcamp Maximum Calorie Burn

I lost the baby weight fast!
I had a baby five months ago and gained a lot of weight not only in my stomach but in my legs and butt. I was certain I would never get my old body back (which I was not loving anyways). So new to The Firm videos, I decided to give this one a try. Wow!!! It worked!!! I have already lost all of the baby weight plus more. Everyday I get questions about how I lost the weight so fast! I tell them about this video. I am in my pre wedding size. This is a great video for an intermediate. It is not too long or difficult and the time goes by fast. I have been doing it for a while now and I think it is time for me to move on to a new Firm video but I highly recommend this one. - posted by Katie on 11/11/2008
This workout is literally the best
I have had this workout as my number one go-to for over a year. There is no other workout in my collection that feels as efficient as this one. it ALWAYS gives me that "awesome workout" feeling, regardless of the fact that I've been doing it forever. I love the recipe of plyo/strength segments alongside cardio segments. It really is so efficient and I WISH they would come out with a part II that is structured in a likewise way. P.S. Sadly, I assumed that all Allison lead workouts would be equally awesome, but I was wrong. The rest are all wimpy and lame comparatively. Disappointing! - posted by mo on 10/26/2008
Great Workout!!!
I first watched the workout dvd and thought it to look boring. Well, after I started doing it and sweating up a storm I thought different. Very good workout. It kept my heartbeat going. I usually do the turbo jam cardio party, but I will start doing The Firm more often. It really felt like more of a workout, even without the dumbbells. I gave it four stars because they kept showing the beginning girl when they told us to move to the advanced moves. Other than that, I would suggest you give it a go! I am 25, former college two sport athlete. I think it will work for any fitness level. - posted by Shavon on 10/24/2008
Good overall workout!
I always feel good after I finish this one. I feel that I get a good cardio workout with a good amount of toning for one of my non-lifting days. Alison, as usual, is a great instructor and makes the workout enjoyable and easy to follow. I definitely recommend adding this one to the collection. - posted by Christi on 9/24/2008
My favorite firm video
This is my favorite firm video in my very extensive collection. Allison is definitely my favorite instructor. The only thing I would say is a problem in this one is each time they show the advanced move for the first. The camera goes right to Su Mi who does the low impact modifications. So you don't see right away what they do for high impact. Which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that it is another excellent video! - posted by Laura on 9/6/2008
Beautiful
A no nonsense workout, fun and challenging. It really kept my heart rate up. I´ve been doing the firm for 10 years now and it has helped me stay in shape or get back in shape after each of my three pregnancies. I highly recommend this one. - posted by Diana on 9/4/2008
Tough Workout
One of the main reasons I like this workout is because it's not too dancy. The choreography is easy to follow, but intense enough to make you sweat! I'd like to see a Maximum Boot Camp II, III, etc. The only thing that bothers me is the camera work. I'm at the advanced level, and the camera focused too much on the beginner. Also, when critical leg work was being done, the camera shifted to the upper body! The camera needs to be better synchronized with the workout. This is the only reason I didn't rate this a 5. - posted by Myra on 9/4/2008
feeling it
great workout.alison did a fine job and i loved the going back and forth with the toning and cardio.far as the repeating of the cardio...what cardio is'nt repetitive. i don't know any.as another reviewer stated, these are instuctional videos.they encouraged you to go heavy or give it all you got.and as far as cathe, her w/o's are mainly for strength and endurance. i.too, thought the firm was for weight loss.my hr was up and i was glowing[as tamilee calls sweating]lol.i have not upped the pounds that they use in the video.do not feel the need to.I have other workouts to go heavy.any way, time seemed to pass quickly and i had fun doing the w/o.i did not do all the plyos because of my knees, but i still put my all into it.this will be in my rotation.and i did not care about the rating [inter/advan]...if i feel i'm going to enjoy it that is good enough for me.i like and use the firm because i have lost alot of weight, still have a way to go,but i'm loving the results that i'm getting.so with all that said..great job alison. - posted by tracy on 8/31/2008
Great Workout!!!
This dvd was only my second Firm dvd and after 3 months it still makes me sweat like crazy. I'm at an intermediate to advance level and I'm the kind of person that wants to get the most out of my workout, and this dvd does just that for me. Everytime I do it I'm literally dripping sweat by the end, and Alison is really modivating. I've been getting nothing but compliments on my tone thanks to this dvd. - posted by Krista on 8/6/2008
Sweating will take place
Don't listen to the naysayers - this workout will keep you challenged even if you do it on a regular basis - the plyo moves and cardio clearly get the instructor winded/sweating at moments and she's in fabulous shape - I really can't believe these reviewers who are saying they just "barely broke a sweat". Unless you are superhuman you will sweat with this workout (that is if you're putting your all into it) I'm a 32 y/o woman 5'5 130 lbs and I work out in earnest for an hour every day, often including this workout - it always feels like an accomplishment afterwards and I rely on it as my calorie burner on days where it seems necessary. The only lackluster part of this workout is the cooldown at the end. The ab moves are good but I never feel like I've stretched out my body especially well by the end of it all, so I usually just do my own add-on stretches independently or use the stretch segments from other firm dvds. - posted by Danielle on 8/3/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
