Time graph for Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred
Three well-structured aero/tone interval workouts led by “The Biggest Loser” trainer. These fast-paced exercises will keep you burning fat as you sculpt muscle. The programs build in intensity; you can start with the intermediate level and work up to the advanced program (it’s tough! — moves like plyo-lunges and traveling pushups). Each workout has three “cycles.” Each cycle starts with three minutes of multi-muscle and isolated strength training. Then it’s two minutes of non-dancy kickbox and athletic-style cardio. That’s followed by one minute of classic abwork (then — no rest — you’ll immediately start a new cycle). Like on the TV show, Jillian is both demanding and supportive. Requires 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2008. DVD has: Music only option, Region 1.

Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred

Great video with no frills needed
I love Jillian! I faithfully watch The Biggest Loser and I've always loved her on the show. I knew before I got this video that it would kick my butt because that's the type of trainer she is. I tried the video for the first time this morning and started on level 2. WOW, it was kick-butt! I've done Tae-Bo in the past and thought that was hard but this wore me out. The moves are not hard to do but with the repetitions, they get you sweating. I don't have a lot of upper body strength (yet!) so some of the moves with the pushups are a little difficult but I just modify it or only do what I can. The great thing about this tape is you can see how she gets all the muscles working without spending 50-60 minutes! I would definitely recommend it. - posted by Amanda on 11/14/2008
Not Impressed
I have been working out for 20 years on and off. I was not that impressed with this workout - as an advanced workout. I think it is more of a beginner workout. It was too short, she does not move with the beat of the music, and she does not hit all body parts. Just my opinion. - posted by Rebecca on 11/7/2008
Jillians Shred is awsome
I love this workout. I stopped working out for awhile and have now returned. I love the fact that I can workout for 20 minutes and feel like I worked out for 40. I started with Level 2 and was sweating the 1st time I did it. I also could not finish all the moves on some parts. Now I've stuck with it for a week and can keep up with it all. I feel stronger and can see my abs already. Great workout for people who are strapped for time and need a but kicking workout! - posted by Val on 11/4/2008
Baby Belly Disappearing
Almost 10 weeks ago, I had my 3rd child. It was also my 3rd c-section in under 5 years. I have been using this video for 2 weeks and I have noticed a dramatic difference in my waistline, and I am DEFINITELY more toned! I haven't seen many pounds come off yet, but I can tell all parts of my body are more toned, thanks to Jillian's video. I appreciate this video because I have a small living room, and I can easily do this workout and not be running into furniture. There is no difficult choreography to learn, just straight-forward cardio, strength, and ab moves. Thanks! - posted by Sara on 10/29/2008
Terrific and tough workout!
I have a trainer at the gym and go at least 4 times a week for cardio and strength training but I do this tape when I don't go to the gym and it is hard. I am on level 2 and tomorrow I try level 3 for the first time. I love the tape- it is quick, the exercises are clear and there are modifications, as needed. I sweat buckets when I am finally done and look forward to the cooldown. But when you get through the workout , with Jillian's support, you feel really great that you have accomplished a lot. I also notice my abs and upper arms are beginning to really take shape, and I am over 50 and just started working out a year ago after losing 100 pounds. I work really hard with this tape but it is favorite of mine! - posted by Jeri on 10/25/2008
Really works for me
I have to admit I am a Jillian devotee. She is so passionate about exercise and sees fitness in such a holistic way but never pretends to love working out. I love that about her and have to admit I hate exercise but I make myself do it for 5 hours every week . I enjoy her no nonsense, kick up the pants style of instruction as it gives me the motivation I need to not make excuses. I have done all her other dvds to death gradually working from 1 kilo weights to 3 kilo weights (I am 5"2 and around 47-48 kilos so 3 kgs is a big deal for me ) I started this DVD on level 3 and I love it. First time around I found it very very tough but it does get easier the more I do it. I noticed a huge difference in my abs very quickly following this workout and I find that if I miss doing this DVD for a few weeks my abs look less defined. I have done 5-7 hours exercise per week for 5 years and since finding Jillian my body has changed so much. Her workouts sculpted me in a way no other DVD ever has. With two young daughters (2 and 6 years of age) a part time job in a stressful field and very little time to exercise doing 25 minutes a few times a day is my only way to fit exercise in and I find Jillian's workouts are just the right length for me. I am about to hit 30 and my metabolism is slowing so I aim to keep going with Jillian's DVDs as along as possible! - posted by Lucy on 10/24/2008
Kick Butt Workout
This workout is amazing!! I've been faithfully working out with this DVD and my results are fantastic! In 1-1/2 months I've lost 14 pounds and tons of inches, off everything. It's very challenging, but very rewarding! - posted by Brenda on 10/23/2008
Fooled Me
Wow! What a workout. I was going to begin with Level 2 or 3 because I already workout to Cathe. Then I thought I'll just try Level 1 first and use heavier weight. I did Level 1 this morning. Well, was I impressed. I only used heavier wgt on the chest flys. I can't wait to try 2 & 3. Also, she was not overly obnoxious. Great job! - posted by Denise on 10/22/2008
Excellent Workout!
Wow, when you see that the workouts are only 20 minutes each, you may think that it'll be super easy. No! Even level 1 kicked my butt, and I was sweating away. I really like Jillian as an instructor (I don't watch Biggest Loser, so I had no background with her). She's very no-nonsense, yet kind. I feel like she cheers me on without being annoying or condescending. The moves are straightforward and tough. This is a great DVD. - posted by Jamie on 10/20/2008
This is awesome!
This DVD seriously kicks my butt! I used to spend 1 1/2 hours a day~5 days a week at the gym and never got results like this! I can't believe how Jillian keeps me motivated day after day. This is a must have DVD for any workout level. BUY THIS VIDEO, I even cancelled my gym membership. Thanks Jillian! - posted by Andi on 10/10/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
