Time graph for Kathy Smith's Peel Off the Pounds Pilates
A straight-forward, very easy-to-follow workout that blends a Pilates element into each exercise. You’ll start with easy-to-follow calorie burning and finish with well-sequenced body-sculpting. The aerobics segment features low-impact cardio favorites done “Pilates style” (you’ll keep your core engaged throughout every movement). The pace is not-too-fast and the music is a little “mellower” than most aerobics. The toning sections include a blend of classic dumbbell muscle toning and true Pilates matwork. Very supportive, very detailed cuing. Programmable DVD lets you play the segments in any order. ©2007. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Music only option, Region 1.

Kathy Smith's Peel Off the Pounds Pilates

Wonderful Workout
I love the low impact cardio, flowing and fun. And the pilates sections are really nice. Kathy's cuing is great and I love her demeanor, I feel like I'm working out with a friend. This is a keeper for me. - posted by Elaine on 10/12/2008
great light day w/o
I really love this new Kathy w/o. It is perfect for light days, gives your whole body a great doable tune-up. If you like Ellen Barret in her recent videos, you will probably love this one - posted by camille on 6/2/2008
Delightful
I have been working with Jillian Michaels' Shred DVD and walking/running too but I always wanted to try Pilates. Watching the clip for "Peel Off the Pounds Pilates" I admit it looked a little tame, but I trust Kathy Smith and I thought it would be a calming workout for light days. I tried it last night (not the cardio -- that looked a little too dancey) and I thought at the time it stretched the upper and lower body in the most delightful, soothing manner. To my surprise I woke up this morning with muscle soreness! It's a short workout, but it works you beautifully! - posted by Joyce on 5/29/2008
Worked Me
I purchased this video recently and started working out last night. Kathy Smith was so enjoyable and the exercise seemed smooth and she kept the pace up not stopping except from one segment to the other. You have a choice to customize, but I went through the entire tape. I am so glad I purchased this dvd. I truly enjoyed EVERY exercise. In most programs there are a few things I hate to do, but this one I loved them all. This morning I was so sore and I mean from one end to the other, but especially in the core. Kathy has a great one here. I truly recommend this to ALL. - posted by Becky on 1/24/2008
Recommend
This was a good video but I didn't feel as challenged and I haven't done exercise in a long time. It's great if your starting out again. The ab routine is excellent though, but the rest is very low impact - posted by Mora on 1/24/2008
Good Core Workout
I am so glad that I purchased Peel Off the Pounds Pilates. It has several good points:XKathy Smith is pleasantly easy to follow.XThe core of the body really gets used.XThe weight segment includes the often slighted triceps and back muscles.XThe stage is a tranquil faintly far eastern set. XThe music is non-intrusive flute, drum, and electric keyboard.XThe DVD is programmable.I personally do the floor cardio, the weight segment (moving a bit to keep my heart pumping), repeat the floor cardio, and finish with the Pilates. This way I have a 55 minutes cardio workout plus some challenging Pilates. I find the plank positions difficult, but am seeing some progress. - posted by Katie from Grass Valley, CA on 1/21/2008
Description is spot on
I think the Collage Video info is correct. This would be a great first time Pilates video as Kathy Smith is a solid, non-annoying instructor. As another reviewer mentioned, the music is questionable and my only negative. I am probably a little past the intermediate range, but this will definitely go into my light days rotation. - posted by Gina on 1/17/2008
Great Zen-Like Fusion Workout!!!
Kathy did an excellent job with this workout. If you like Petra's Breathe I and II, Ellen's Fat Burning Fusion and Jody's Balletones you should like this workout. It is all about days that you want a total body light sweat workout that heats up all your joints in a safe way and leaves you totally relaxed, rejuvenated and zenful. Plus you will feel a light bit of doms the next day and you will sweat glamourously during the workout. I feel there is a place in everyones collection for this type of fusion workout. Kathy is very friendly and motivating in a relaxed way. No yelling here. Very good form pointers. The DVD is chaptered well. Excellent set and the music is jazz style. This workout works best between those hardcore Cathe workouts. - posted by NA/AWA on 1/16/2008
Stretch part is the BEST!
I love the format style the dvd provided. Cal Pozo always did that with Denise Austin. Now, it is with new instructor, Kathy! I'm not really familar of her. Now, I like her. She is so MELLOW! I enjoyed the cardio. It is not intense but moved all of my limbs enough to get sweated some. Toning and abs are good. I love the stretch. Wow! I feel like floating away. Bit like yoga! Wish that it is bit longer like 10 minutes. Week by week, I use one dvd and rotate with other total workout dvds that include short cardio, toning, and stretch. I don't want to juggle with other dvds. If you are already advanced, it is not for you. It suits best for ones who haven't exercised for a while or rather gentle kind of workout. - posted by Robin H. on 1/10/2008
The music kills this one...
I don't often care about music in workouts, but it is SO BAD in this one that I couldn't enjoy the workout. It is just aweful. I hated every minute of it. The workout itself was just ok. I appreciate how low impact it was. I also appreciate that it is easy to follow. This will be good for days I workout in the morning. I can't take alot of choreography or intensity in the mornings, so this will be a morning workout. It's also easy enough to follow that I suppose I could do it with the sound muted on the TV. Yes, the music is that bad. Kathy cued ok. She missed a couple of cues, but overall it was fine. The pilates exercises weren't anything you can't find in most other pilates DVD workouts. Did I mention the bad music! - posted by Melissa S. on 1/8/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
