New York City Ballet (Two Workouts) |
    lovely |
I have taken ballet for many years and i just loved this workout. You don't need to have nay experience in ballet, but the instrutor and dancers are not always on the same "page" This workout is great for toning the whole body as well as helping with flexability. - posted by melissa on 7/1/2008

    Two Beautiful Workouts! |
I have never done ballet before, and I'm not that coordinated--as far as weight lifting, cardio, and Pilates go, I'm an advanced exerciser. These two workouts involve actual dancing only in the warm-up of one and the final, "extra" dance of the second. Even though I only use DVDs once or twice a week (although more and more often since I purchased there), and switch through a stack, I have found myself getting better and better at the dance moves. And even from the beginning I just moved about to the music, and my heart rate climbed right up there. It was still fun (although I'm sure I looked funny). The exercises are great! I really, really enjoy them. They are largely new to me (except some show up in Pilates). The dancers that perform are gorgeous, and it's nice that beautiful men are included along with the slim women. There are a few drawbacks: when one is looking away from the television for an exercise it's not always possible to know what to do next from the voice over, the background is a little dark, making it hard in the prone positions to tell if the feet are pointed or flexed, and the voice over isn't always exactly in line with the performers . Overall though, these two DVDs are quite worthwhile, and I feel happier, stronger, healthier, and even more graceful after doing them. - posted by Karisha on 3/13/2008

exellent
i love this dvd! it is so much better than nyc volume 1 because the dvd is better laid out(no jumping from different sections)there is a bit more floor work(abs, floor barre etc)which i love and the actual ballet is similar to volume 1 but like i said the dvd doesnt jump from section 9 to 13 for example so you don't have to constantly play with the dvd player.i recommend this to anyone who likes pilates and the gracefulness of dance. you DO NOT need to be a dancer. - posted by vicki on 2/4/2007

Should have been better
I thought the cueing was sub-par. On the first disc the cueing was not done in mirror fashion so you have to watch and not listen. Also the breaks between each exercise were too long and time-wasting. On the second disc, Peter Martins got the cueing right (i.e. mirroring) but there should have been more verbal instructions to allow one to do without constantly looking to see how many combos, right or left, etc. I was disappointed as this was listed as a "staff favorite". - posted by Linda S. on 1/21/2007

At last - a ballet workout anyone can do
I'm thrilled with this workout. The choreography is easy (specially if you've taken ballet at all) but it's still hard work. Full of grace and flow. Just what I wanted for core strength and flexibility. I'm 60 yrs old (ex ballet) and desperately needed this. Thanks. - posted by Lynn on 8/24/2006

Loved It
I thoroughly enjoyed this workout. I had an old knee injury act up on me when doing step, so I switched to taebo and pilates type work outs. This one was great. I did it this morning and really really enjoyed it. I will rotate this in at least 3xs a week as it is very soothing, yet you feel like you have done some decent work to your body afterward. By the way, I am not a dancer. - posted by Monique on 3/9/2005

Ballet II
I like the first NYC ballet video and feel that it is superior over II. I found this one to be way too "artsy", the first one had it's beauty in it's simplicity. I also liked the entire first cast. I bought both tapes, but only use the original one. - posted by Joan on 1/28/2004
