Time graph for Prevention: Drop It with Dance
An easy-to-follow fat-burner with lots of heart-rate-raising arm motions. The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying the movement, not mastering the latest club steps. There are three dance styles: jazz funk, early hip hop and “90’s jam” (no Latin!). They’re all taught add-on style — you’ll learn a move at half-tempo, then add some variations and speed it up. The jazz funk includes whimsical routines like “pony tail” and “snatch and grab.” The hip hop section is a little slower with bigger, more powerful combos. “90’s jam” features lots of attitude and classics like “Robocop” and “Roger Rabbit.” You’ll end with a “showtime” segment where you put it all together. ©2007. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option, Region 1.

Prevention: Drop It with Dance

Follow up
I just wrote a review saying that this dvd was awful (and I stand by that), but I wanted to say something positive and that's that I really like the instructor Tabitha. She has a great on-camera presence, and I think she's be fun on a better workout. I just watched the clip again, and realized that she's a judge on So You Think You Can Dance. I hope she comes out with another dvd soon...she's great (but not enough for me to encourage anyone to buy this dvd) - posted by GymRatt on 9/20/2008
Simply Awful
This has got to be one of the worst videos I've ever gotten. It's not just boring - it's bad. The thing is, I really gave it a shot, but as the segments progressed, I just started to get mad because the entire routine seems haphazard and made up as they're going along. If you're looking for some fun dance cardio, do yourself a favor and skip this dvd. There's nothing fun, dance, or cardio about it. Prevention should be slapped on the wrists for releasing this dud. - posted by GymRatt on 9/20/2008
Not my favorite
This one was a disappointment. I have several other Prevention Dvd's and they are good. This one is boring and one I will not use again!!!!!!!!!! - posted by Linda on 8/30/2008
Not really a workout but fun
I thought that this dvd would give me 40 minutes of a real workout but instead it's 30 minutes of learning and only 10 minutes of dancing. It was fun and challenging to learn the moves but the learning segments are too slow to really work up a sweat. I like to stick the 10 minute show time dance at the end of some of my other workouts...but if you're looking for a complete workout routine this is definitely not it! - posted by T on 6/3/2008
fun and a first for me!
I am an intermediate exerciser that usually likes very solid athletic type of workouts. However I was finding that I needed something low impact also and get tired of yoga (I hate the mind body connection because of relgious convictions). This fit the bill. I have two left feet so am not good with complex choreography. This isn't overly complex however if you are not coordinated like me then you will have to rewind it several times before you really get it. It took me a few times, but once I did I was suprised that after doing two of the 10 min. dance routines I actually was dripping with sweat! There is a 10 min hip hop routine and the moves are very big with lunges and such and WOW! This workout you will suprisingly feel in your legs the next day. Her cueing is pretty good also. Get this one if you want someting low impact, good cardio (I get tired of aerobics with weights all the time), and a different change of pace. - posted by denise persichino on 5/23/2008
Fun workout!
This is a fun workout and I find it being one I do often when I want something that is a good workout without being overly demanding. I agree with some of the previous posts that some of the moves seem pointless but I think the music is pretty good on this one. Once you learn the moves, if you skip the individual sections (because they use up a lot of time explaining each step and putting them together) and just do the Showtime section over and over, it is a good workout. - posted by Heather on 5/9/2008
My first dance video!
I have always been leery of trying a dance video (some can look cheesy and seem ridiculous), but I decided to give this one a try and I'm glad I did! I liked the challenge and as my exercise motto goes "your workout is only as effective as what you put into it"! In other words, really use your core and hit the moves.. you'll be sweating in no time! Also, the people weren't intimidating (always a plus). - posted by Kristen on 4/21/2008
Awful
I agree with earlier reviews...this video is VERY boring. Part of the problem is the music, since you can barely hear it, and then the moves are kind of 'blah'. I suffered through 3 segments, and between the boredom and the fact that I wasn't even sort of sweating, I had to give up. Save your money. there are better dance videos. On a positive note, I liked the instructor (but not enough to ever try this video again.) - posted by GR on 4/10/2008
Don't give up!
The first time I did this workout, I was really intimidated by trying to learn all the moves and was discouraged afterwards; the second time I did it, I decided to just try to move and do something close to what they were doing and with that attitude, it was really fun. The music is better than most. - posted by Sheryl on 3/12/2008
Snoozer!
Everyone else seems to like this video but I found it a real snoozer. I was not especially fond of the instructor or the moves she pieced together--the routines had a lot of so-so moves in them. I like the two other dance videos by Prevention much better--one is led by Jennifer Gilardi and one is led by Gloria Forneo. Get one of these instead; get the Prevention video led by Gloria if you want only one. - posted by RobinK on 2/13/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
