Time graph for Slim Sculpt with Ellen Barrett
A balanced program that gracefully blends Pilates techniques and weight-room style toning. It’s an effective format that stretches and lengthens your body as it shapes and tones each muscle. Classic gym-style exercises are “softened” with more fluid transitions and a greater range of motion. For example, instead of a standard start-then-stop lunge, you’ll lean into the lunge and then gently pull back (so the muscle stretches on the “lean in” and strengthens on the “pull back”). Upper-body moves have a similar feel (e.g. large, diagonal motions like a Pilates “pulley arms” routine). The floorwork features mostly classic Pilates core exercises. Ellen’s cuing is clear and refined. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2007.

Slim Sculpt with Ellen Barrett

Overworked shoulders
I love Ellen and I love her workouts, usually. This one really overworked my shoulders and strained them, even when I tried doing it without any weights at all. So many love this program; I truly wish I could but it's too painful for me so I gave it away. Instead, I do her Fat Burning Fusion while wearing weighted gloves and I feel I get more of a total body workout that way. I also still love and use her Crunch workouts (although I like the atmosphere better in her Studio workouts). I have yet to try Yogini - hopefully I'll really like it! - posted by Claire on 11/16/2008
Wowza!
After lifting to Jari for months, I figured I could do 3 pound weights with this workout with no problem. Ouch! I think I may be stepping down to some 1 pounders for a little while, and then try the 3's again. Killer arm workout - and as always, Ellen is a wonderful instructor. =) - posted by N on 11/9/2008
STILL love it....
as an update to my earlier,March review below, just want to say I still love this workout! The newness has never worn off. This entire series are such feel good workouts designed to whip your body into shape in a fun, effective way. All three in this series are fabulous. I like the upper body focus of Slim Sculpt and am still amazed I feel this workout as much as I do. Ellen is wonderful,a true pro and incredible instructor. This workout is something so different from most workouts and was a very welcome change for me. I use three pound weights for this one now but it took awhile to build up to that. All I can say is that my upper body screams after this workout, more so then when I lift much heavier weights. Go figure! This workout will sculpt and define your upper body without bulk,it's guaranteed if you are consistant. You are amazing,Ellen! Thanks for bringing your wonderful Studio workouts into our homes! - posted by Judy on 9/9/2008
Love this DVD!!!
I just tried this DVD for the first time so I can't speak to its effectiveness, however I can vouch for how much fun it is. It's great for someone who wants a low impact workout but who wants to sweat. I started out with three pound weights but had to switch to 1 lb weights about 10 minutes in. I have to say that although it doesn't feel like cardio, you still sweat. I have done Ellen's Burn & Firm Pilates workout for years and I really like her, she's motivating, her cues are flawless and she is just genuinely likeable. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and highly recommend it. Now I plan to order Fat Burning Fusion to add to my collection :) - posted by Sandra on 9/8/2008
My All-Time Favorite Total Body Workout
I am a fit 50-year-old. Ellen Barrett's Slim Sculpt is my favorite total body workout. It is beautifully choreographed, fun to do, and I can modify it depending on my energy level. On days I'm feeling more energetic, I combine it with some additional weight work and stretching or a brisk walk around the neighborhood before I start the DVD. I also have Ellen Barrett's Yogini, which is more challenging. I hope Ellen comes out with more workouts in the future. If I lived near her studio, I would join it! - posted by Karen on 8/10/2008
Wonderful and Creative
I thought this was a wonderful, unique, creative workout. I really feel it in my waist and arms/shoulders. The Fat Burning Fusion has more leg work, so its a nice companion to this DVD. It is refreshing and different from most workouts and yet you feel its effects. Lovely job by Ellen. - posted by Shelley on 4/14/2008
Mostly arm work, very little lower body / legs
I was a disapointed in this dvd. The first three sections worked mainly the arms non-stop, and only last section "matwork" had any leg work at all. - posted by Michelle on 3/26/2008
WOW!!! Ellen does it again.............
I absolutely LOVE Fat Burning Fusion and SlimSculpt is the PERFECT companion. What an awesome workout! The addition of the light weights makes all the difference in the world as this will definitely sculpt your waist and arms slim,no doubt about it. Like all of Ellen's workouts, this is not mindless exercise,it requires focus and concentration to get the most out of it. Ellen is a brilliant, delightful instructor and a pleasure to work out with. I HIGHLY recommend getting all three workouts in this series as they are designed to complement one another. EXCELLENT job,as usual,Ellen! - posted by Judy on 3/26/2008
Love this workout!
I love all of Ellen Barrett's workouts that I've done, she is a great instructor. This workout was great, I used 3 lb. weights when doing it and had to put them down a few times just like some of the other reviewers had said. I can definitely feel where it worked my waist and upper body! - posted by Brittney on 3/17/2008
Another great one by Ellen!
Stretching and sculpting--loved it. The only issue I see is beginners flailing the weights, or people flailing weights because they're using heavier weights than they should. Otherwise, this is a great add-on to Ellen's other wonderful workouts. Ellen is a positive, calming instructor with excellent cuing, poise and fluidity. I love how she emphasizes the female physique with proper posture, form and techniques. - posted by Anita on 3/13/2008
