Time graph for The Firm: Hi-Def Sculpt
A well-designed dumbbell workout that optimizes results with precise weight-level selections (so the weight is matched to the specific muscle group being worked). It’s also time-efficient; the between-move transitions are short and smooth-flowing. Annie Lee incorporates a huge variety of exercises and techniques — sometimes working multiple body parts, sometimes isolating a single muscle group. To assure proper form, she often starts with a base routine and then adds another body part or movement plane. Requires at least two sets of dumbbells (e.g. 3 lb. and 5 lb.). ©2007. Note: Newly released as a separate DVD, previously only available in “The Firm TransFirmation” kit. DVD has: 1 premix (25-min. alternate workout)., Spanish option, Close captions, Region 1.

The Firm: Hi-Def Sculpt

Probably better for beginners
I found this workout to be slow and not very challenging. My heart rate barely changed and I didn't really feel any muscle fatigue or challenge. That being said, I think this would be a good workout for those new to weight training. The pace is slow and the moves are basic. I prefer Total Body Toner to this one hands down. - posted by Pam on 10/30/2008
Good introduction to free weights
This is not the same intensity as older FIRM videos (pre-2001). It is a solid tape if you are just starting to use weights for the first time or if you are coming back from time off. If you currently use older FIRM tapes, you will be disappointed. Great for a "light day." - posted by Cindie on 9/28/2008
Yay!
I love this! I tried this and now much prefer this over Total Body Toner. This is more "to the point" in my opinion. No cardio moves, just body sculpting, which is what I have been looking for. The cueing isn't the greatest, but it doesn't take away from the work out itself. Not boring, and you will definitley feel this the next day. A staple in my rotation! Buy it! - posted by Jessica on 9/21/2008
so go, it's replaced another in P90
I love this workout. I am doing the P90 rotation and have actually replaced Tony's strength with Annie's hi def sculpt. Annie is an encouraging, friendly instructor. She seems down to earth and likeable. Not to mention inspiring..if my arms could look like that! I had no troubles with weights I just used 5lbs for everything. When looking for a home workout I want something effective, that targets most muscle groups and I want an instructor I can stand to watch everyday and for me, that's Annie! - posted by kelly on 9/19/2008
Great toning workout
I loved this workout. Annie did a fine job. I could really feel my muscles working. My HR was up;not to where my heart was going to fall out,but that's not what this w/o is about.About the weights... they tell you to start with 3,5,or 8's. I assume that's until you know the w/o. Most of the time, they will say pick up a light, medium,or heavy. Isn't light 1-3 pounds, medium 5-8,and heavy is 10 and up. People complain about the few reps. I assume it's for if you did go heavy. I thought the firm was designed for weightloss, not to look like Xena. Some of the moves they do, you need light weights unless you want micro tears in your muscles. People talk about the old firm...look at instructors from when they first started up to now; alot of things have changed. These are instuctional videos. If they pick up 5 lbs and you feel you can go heavier, then do your thing. Any how, I am glad Annie got to lead a class. I loved how she kept talking about form and wantig to make sure you got a great w/o. Loved her friendly attitude and beautiful smile. Great job Annie. - posted by Mary on 8/27/2008
Great Sculpting Workout
This is first and foremost a great workout. I have really grown to love Annie. I like to do this workout along with the other workouts that came with the CardioWeights System. It hits every spot of the body as she encourages you till the end of the workout. It really maximizes your workout time with effectively and efficiently works out every muscle in your body. You will really feel your muscles work as you go through all of the moves. This is a definite keeper you will not be sorry you tried it. - posted by Emily on 8/15/2008
Good workout when I don't want to be "dripping!"
I recently bought the 4-DVD set with the hand weights, and I really like this workout. It has less cardio and more weight work than the others, so it's good on those days when I don't want to be dripping by the end of the workout. The express version is great before work and the full version is for weekends. I moved up to 8-lb. weights after the first few times. My only problem with all the FIRM tapes is there are soooo many lunges that my quadriceps are killing me after a few consecutive workouts! I started adding in a Core Secrets workout in between to stretch out. I also don't feel that I'm doing the tricep moves correctly, except for the kickback ones, as I don't hardly feel sore at all in that area. I like the cueing on this tape and she only goofed once I believe. A good workout! - posted by Terri on 8/8/2008
Good Workout with Heavier Weights
Use slightly heavier weights than recommended if you are an advanced excerciser. You'll feel it! Overall a very good workout. Annie is a little green as an instructor but she's sweet. - posted by Cynthia on 7/25/2008
GREAT workout. Great lead and choreography. Get it!
This is the only workout that I fell for/was extremely drawn to while previewing it after I received it this evening. I very much like Annie's direct but cheerful approach (reminiscent of the Firm instructors of old--Tracie Long, Susan Harris)and the moves--simple, effective, and unique. It was nice not to hear "now one more and we'll add on", to do a workout without impact, and to experience the slight burn of deliberate moves choreographed inventively. I worked up a sweat, but this workout--the perfect introduction to The Firm body shaping exercises (as the back cover copy states)--did not leave me drenched, which I liked very much. I have a variety of workouts and don't feel the need to pump heavy weights, do 16 reps of everything, and be drenched in sweat after every workout. It was nice to feel worked out and revived after doing this workout. The 25-minute express workout will be perfect to do in the mornings before work and/or when you want a short, compact workout. Absolutely wonderful workout. Excellent job Firm and Annie! Excellent job! - posted by Joy on 7/25/2008
Really liked this one
I really enjoyed this workout. It gave a great variety of exercises, working the entire body without leaving you in pain the next day. I want to be able to carry on my day without being extremely sore but still see results and this is exactly the DVD I was looking for. It was exactly as advertised. I also really liked this instructor. She was no-nonsense, encouraging and cued very clearly. I had no problem at all following the routines and it never felt like it was going to drag on forever. I worked up a good sweat, felt stronger and look forward to doing it again. - posted by Jenn on 7/24/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
