Time graph for The Firm: Power Yoga
The Firm’s unique approach to yoga, these smooth-flowing routines feel more “athletic” than “mystical.” This is true yoga, so you’ll get all of yoga’s well-known benefits: balance, flexibility and strength. The moves include all the classics, from “downward dog” and “warrior” to “cobra” and “child’s” pose. However, the emphasis is on stretching and toning the muscles, not on achieving a “mind-body connection.” In fact, there is no yoga jargon at all; Kirsten Strohecker cues the moves with common, easy-to-understand terminology. Ideal for “non-yoga” people. ©2004.

The Firm: Power Yoga

Love It!
If traditional yoga workouts annoy you, this is a good choice. I'm forever buying yoga DVDs in the hopes that I will increase my flexibility. In the end, I always hate the slow pace and annoying music. Plus, the spiritual side of yoga isn't what I'm after. This is a no-nonsense, sports-based yoga workout. I find it challenging, but not impossible, and very pleasant to work out with. - posted by Jamie on 11/14/2008
For Beginners only!
This is a great DVD for beginners with a heavy emphasis on stretching. If you are new to yoga, this is a great workout for you. For the intermediate practitioners, this will not be a challenging enough workout. - posted by Fiona on 11/6/2008
FABULOUS Yoga DVD
I absolutely love this DVD. If you are new to Yoga, this is the DVD for you. Kirsten is an excellent instructor and explains the moves/positions very well. I use this video more than any other video I own. Great job Kirsten. - posted by Stephanie on 10/30/2008
Great intro to yoga!
I've never done yoga before - I love to run and do kickboxing -but this really made me have an appreciation for yoga. I could tell an immediate difference in flexibility and the way my body felt. This is truly good for "non-yoga" people; easy to follow, without emphasis on meditation, only the physical movements. I'll always incorporate a workout like this into my routine from now on! - posted by Cat on 9/13/2008
Great power yoga
I'm not a fan of the The Firm DVDs (just not my style), but I do love this one. Most of the power yoga DVDs I've come across are long and seem boring. This one kept my interest and had no dread factor. I definitely felt stretched, toned, and lengthened after this. I also loved the calming (but not elevator) music. I didn't mind that the instructor didn't use yoga terms although I think it would have been a little easier to follow if she included the names of the poses. That way I could just do a downward facing dog instead of waiting for her to describe it. Overall, great DVD! - posted by Chloe on 8/6/2008
Oh My Gosh!
I've never done yoga before and thought,"There's no way I'm going to get a great workout from stretching." I picked this up because I love The Firm. But by the time I got to the 4th position I was out of breath, I was sweating, and I was thinking GOD HELP ME! This was tough, but not in a bad way, but a good way. This is hands down one of my favorite Firm videos of all time. It is really a breath of fresh air, you are so relaxed by the end you could sleep. It's great for those days you want to workout, but just not up to lifting. You have to get this! It's a must for your workout collection. - posted by Chelsea on 6/3/2008
Love it!
Kirsten's timing is so in sync with the breathing that it really makes the poses flow. I work up a sweat every time I do this video! It's short enough to do in the mornings before work and keeps my body loose and feeling tuned in. - posted by Catherine on 5/12/2008
Good power yoga workout
I've had this dvd for a few years. I tend to be on-again, off-again with my excercise, and thankfully, I'm on-again now and feeling great! This yoga video is tough and I always feel the burn! This "power" yoga feels more like a standard workout than most of my other yoga tapes, which leave me relaxed and refreshed. My one fault with this program is the instructor. Her voice is really annoying to me & grates on my nerves. She sounds like a Valley Girl to me. Other than that, a good workout. I will plan to use it for a change once in awhile. - posted by Mary on 5/6/2008
Super stretch!
I am writing this the morning after I've completed this workout. I usually do not write reviews but this is worth the review. After completing the workout and sleeping all night, I feel much looser and more relaxed. I have used the Yogilates DVD's which I also love, but this gives you a much better stretch. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the participant completing the beginner workout should be on camera more often -- or perhaps positioned closer to the instructor so that she could also be seen. That is my only criticism, however, of this fantastic stretch! - posted by Mary Anne on 4/17/2008
Refreshing
This is the first workout video that I have ever done. I usually prefer high-intensity cardio workouts, but who knew that something that appears so basic such as yoga could be so fun, effective, and invigorating. It is a good video to do on days that you don't have as much energy to do an intensive cardio routine, but you definitely want to do something. - posted by Michelle on 3/28/2008

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
